PRIVACY POLICY
At Zero to Hero we consider privacy to be a very important matter and as such we are committed to protecting the privacy of the personal information of all visitors. This Privacy Policy incorporates the applicable portions of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (Canada), the Personal Information Protection Act (Alberta) and the ten principles set out in the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Model Code for the Protection of Personal Information (together, the "applicable privacy laws").
Information We Collect
Information you provide directly:
- Account information: your name, email address, password, language preferences and learning level.
- Learning data: saved words, phrases, review progress, notes, playlists, liked videos, watch history, books and reading progress.
- Content you upload or create: custom media, EPUB files, and text you ask us to translate or explain.
- Payment information: when you purchase a subscription, payment is processed by Stripe, PayPal, the Apple App Store or Google Play. We receive confirmation and subscription details, but we generally do not store your full card number.
Information collected automatically:
- Usage data: pages and features you visit, including , , , , , , , , , , , , , and ; videos you watch; interactions; and timestamps.
- Device and network information: IP address, browser type, operating system, device type and approximate location derived from your IP address.
Browser extension data:
The Language Player browser extension for Chrome works on video streaming sites (such as Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, Disney+, Hulu, and Max) to show interactive subtitles for language learning. In addition to the information above, the extension:
- reads and processes the subtitles or captions of the video you are currently watching, on your device, so it can display them with an interactive transcript and dictionary; the subtitle text is sent to our backend (and to translation or AI providers when you use those features) to tokenize and translate it;
- stores your language preferences, settings, and your signed-in session locally in the browser's extension storage (
chrome.storage), and syncs saved words and learning data to your account when you are signed in; - reads the video page's subtitle data only for the purpose of providing the interactive transcript — it does not collect your browsing history or the content of other pages you visit.
- Analytics: we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the Website. Google Analytics may use cookies and collect usage data on our behalf. Google's use of that data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
- Local storage: we use cookies,
localStorage,sessionStorageand IndexedDB to keep you signed in, remember your language, store your settings, progress and saved words, and cache content locally.
What Do We Do With Your Information?
We use the information we collect to:
- provide, maintain and improve the Website and its features;
- create and manage your account, verify your identity and keep you signed in;
- personalize recommendations based on your language, level and learning history;
- sync your data across devices;
- process subscriptions, payments and renewals;
- send transactional emails such as verification codes, password resets and payment receipts;

When you provide us with personal information to create an account, complete a transaction, verify your payment, place an order, or use our products and services, we infer that you consent to our collecting it and using it for that specific reason only.
